WICHITA, Kan. – Sarah Lopez, a regional healthcare tech leader and administrator for Ascension Health, today announced her candidacy for the District 2 position on the Sedgwick Board of County Commissioners. The position is currently held by Michael O'Donnell.
"It's time for the district to have mature, attentive, clear-headed, and family-focused representation," Lopez said, herself a mom of three. "We need a County Commissioner who is focused on the working people of South Sedgwick County instead of playing political games and pandering for special interest donors."
Lopez, who was raised in Sedgwick County, is a product of Wichita Public Schools and Wichita Technical Institute. Following her graduation from Wichita Technical Institute, Sarah began a now 14-year career with Ascension Health. For over a decade, Sarah has written and executed multi-million dollar budgets, negotiated with vendors nationwide and kept costs low across her region. Lopez said she's eager to take this discipline to the County Commission.
"We're at a critical point for the future of Sedgwick County, I'm not interested in playing politics with people's lives," Lopez said. "That's why I'm focused on issues like making sure there are opportunities for investment and job creation in our part of the County."
Lopez said the other key issues in her campaign are creating and sustaining opportunities for adequate child care and paid leave for working families, addressing the critical gaps in mental and behavioral healthcare treatment, especially as it relates to drug use, and making sure the south side of the County is getting its fair share of services and resource allocation.
Lopez is currently running unopposed in the Democratic primary.
